Northern Rockies council moves forward with 2027 permissive tax exemptions

Local non-profit and community-serving organizations in the Northern Rockies are one step closer to securing property tax relief for the upcoming year.
At Monday’s regular council meeting, The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality advanced its annual planning for community support, reviewing the proposed Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw for 2027.
Permissive tax exemptions are an important tool used by local governments across British Columbia to support eligible non-profit, charitable, and recreational organizations that enhance the quality of life within the community.
Unlike statutory tax exemptions which are automatically applied by provincial legislation, permissive exemptions are granted entirely at the discretion of municipal councils to recognize organizations that provide foundational social, cultural and recreational services to the public.
As municipal staff and council finalize the details ahead of upcoming statutory deadlines, the ongoing initiative highlights the region’s continued commitment to backing the local groups, volunteers, and service providers that keep Northern Rockies communities strong.
