RCMP arrest Fort Nelson man following ATV incident on Alaska Highway

A Fort Nelson man is facing multiple charges after police said he failed to stop during an attempted traffic stop on the Alaska Highway.

According to Northern Rockies RCMP, officers were conducting patrols south of Fort Nelson shortly after 11 p.m. on June 29 when they spotted a red all-terrain vehicle travelling on the roadway.

Police said officers attempted to intercept the ATV, but the driver did not stop. No pursuit was initiated, however, officers were able to collect a detailed description of the driver.

The following morning, on June 30, an RCMP officer conducting patrols in the 3000 block of Muskwa Road located a person matching the description from the previous night. Police say the individual was wearing the same clothing and was sitting on the same red ATV.

The suspect, identified as a 28-year-old man, was arrested and held in custody.

The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved charges, including flight from police, breach of probation and driving while prohibited.

The allegations have not been proven in court.
